We are an official 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization
n 2008, Giving Initiatives and Alternatives, Incorporated (G.I.A.) was established in memory of Gia GaNe't Arrington, a 25-year-old beautiful woman and step-daughter of G.I.A. founder Angelo Omar Muhammad.
G.I.A., Inc. was formed with the mission to provide children and adults with the skills they need to make responsible and positive lifestyle choices. In doing so, G.I.A. will educate children about the consequences of the decisions they make, particularly in regards to unhealthy behaviors. As a neutral convener of organizations with an interest in our Nation’s children and young adults, G.I.A. strives to be a central source of information for those supporting, teaching, and preparing our Nation’s children for life’s challenges. A host of self-driven educational programs are designed to address everything from the learning needs of children during out of school time (after school programs and summer enrichment camp programs) to programs that provide guidance and cover from the pressures of growing up in this world, including how to take care of your body, or “your temple”.
From anti-bullying sessions, to planning for a successful future and how to seize unanticipated opportunities, G.I.A. strives to partner with organizations eager to achieve this goal as well as deliver on the promise to change lives.
As stated on our home page, we are dedicated to providing educational and inspirational community programs to youth and adults. These include, but are not limited to, workshops, classes, mentoring and community activities.
What has become one of our signature educational programs is the Boys After-school Mentoring Programs which are designed to address the learning needs of children during out of school time. The educational programs will focus on enrichment activities, mentoring recreation (sports and outdoor activities), life skills, entrepreneurship, cultural excursions (i.e. plays, concerts, museums and travel abroad) and media production activities (audio, photography, writing, and video productions).
The goal is to have the mentoring programs funded by grants and donations, thus the program will be free or at a nominal cost to the participants. Any fee collected will be utilized to cover the cost of program operations, field trips, supplies, and food. This activity lends to our mission which is “to engage in educational and inspirational programs”, specifically to benefit and motivate youth and young adults, underprivileged and at-risk youth and their families.
We plan on extending the mentoring program into an international exchange and outreach program that would provide lifelong memories for children and provide charitable giving to homeless and hungry people in various parts of the world.
Based in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia, G.I.A. is fortunate in its ability to participate in diverse community programs as an entity designed to support youth enrichment activities. G.I.A. has already partnered with other organizations to bring innovative programs to the community including monthly business networking sessions and special events including Youth Day and the Jump Rope Challenge. The youth enrichment programs will provide access, training and information for the community in the areas of audio and video production and other careers. Some of the activities will entail teaching youth about the audio and video industry; provide training on equipment; and engage youth in actual production development as a means to foster interest and learning.
Youth will be provided with audio/video training from hired part time staff and volunteers. Both A-1 Video Production and Photography and Tamoca Entertainment, LLC (specializing in media production and training since 1986) will make any donations available to the non-profit to assist in its start-up and ongoing phases. These programs in the community will be conducted as opportunities arise. Any youth or youth serving entity may participate in the community activities, thus there is no specific selection process. There is no fee anticipated for participation once grants and adequate donations are obtained.
G.I.A. Inc. has also provided international relief with its mission work in Jamaica, providing much needed school supplies and clothing for children. We had a regular mentoring club for boys and a sewing class for girls at the Flankers Junior High School in 2015 and and are now farming and raising chickens in Four Paths, Jamaica which is located in Clarendon Parish. We look forward to expanding our work with your assistance.
